Hi, welcome to Spott - your personal college map, a product underneath Live, Inc. If you were unfamiliar with Live Inc, it is a company whose sole purpose is to make products that help you live better. We believe living better implies connecting faster with the right people and creating stronger relationships through shared experiences with those you are close with, and so we made Spott.
Spott is your social map. Spott is a mobile application that allows users to find their closest friends, meet new people around them (instead of scrolling through feeds), and find mobile catering services (food trucks, stands, ice cream trucks). We sell mobile catering services advertisements to reach users at highly populated user locations. We are anti-facebook and anti-passivity. We categorize your friendships into friends, knowns, and people around you. Depending on what stage you send someone an emoji and their mutual emoji send is how you develop friends. We are an app based on action and we want to incentivize connection amongst people who haven’t met yet but happen to be close in proximity for some reason.
It’s clean simple interface let’s you know fun and easy to know happenings in your location. What your friends and family are up to. Have you ever missed out on an epic party? Lost your friends at a festival? Needed some confidence in the form of a mutual conversation topic to meet someone in your location? Traveled to a networking event and met no one worth meeting? Ate lunch alone? Been tired of waiting for friends who said their on their way but just got out of bed? With Spott, you meet people worth meeting, and go places worth going. We want you to connect faster to build stronger relationships in real life.
THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE IT
Spott collects the data we believe is necessary to provide users with the most locationally beneficial experience. We ensure security of all accounts and will be transparent on all data we share. (We need your location to help you connect with people and the food trucks around you!)
When you use our services you share information with Spott and companies within our corporate family. Live Inc is the data controller and responsible for processing the data.
To create an account, we require your location (to verify you are on campus) your name, phone number, favorite 3 emoji’s, your photo, and access to your contacts. The name is used to identify yourself and phone number to authenticate your account.
Spott is a location-based application. In order to provide our users our services we need access to your location data.
You can contact us at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any problems or questions with our data collection or if you want us to correct any data.
We have a data deletion and retention policy in place that details how long we store your information. Generally we store the information we collect as long as you are actively using the Spott app.
You have the right to provide us with any instructions on how to handle the deletion and retention of your personal data after your death.
Information we collect about you while you use the app
When using Spott we use tools to monitor information about users’ usage of the app to ameliorate the user experience. Such as number of locations visited and travel frequency to help users to connect you to others who travel to similar locations as we believe shared spaces infers a common interest that could spark a connection. We collect the number of emoji’s you send to friends, knowns and people. When you are at specific locations Spott sends users notifications of the deals possible for customers at set locations.
Information sharing and disclosure
Spott only shares your personal information in limited circumstances.
If you tell us you are happy for us to share your information. Allowing location sharing.
In order to comply with applicable law or legal obligations (Ranges for specific action)
We may share information with only local businesses that you have travelled to or live within a very close range of.
We may share information with schools according to locations, events, and user surveys for specific events
How else may, we use this information we collect?
We collect information with regard to your activity on Spott. For example, how you communicate with your friends: names, usernames, times and dates of communications, the number of messages and emojis you exchange, your favorite friends based on crossed paths, the time at which you open messages, when you take a screenshot, and so on. This helps us understand what you like, and what we should improve!
Registration. When first registering through the app you provide us with your first and last name. You allow us to get your location which allows you to use our map (You don’t have to share all the time, because we have a ghost mode), Favorite 3 emoji’s and phone number. During registration we will send you a verification code via text message which will enable us to verify your account (we find it easier and more secure than remembering a password). If you don’t receive a verification code delete app start again.
Profile Picture. You can add a profile picture to make it easier for your friends to see you and for you to connect with them. By clicking on our owl mascot Athena, you can go to your profile. You can change it by clicking on the edit button.
Contacts. We allow users to share your contacts to easily find friends that are already active on Spott. Sharing your contacts makes it easier to invite friends to Spott.
Location. Spott is a location-based service so in order for the app to fully function we need permission to know your precise location. You provide us with the permission to your location from the settings. We collect your location using GPS, wireless networks, cell towers, WiFi access points, and other sensors, like gyroscopes, accelorometers, and compasses. If for any reason you are letting someone else use your phone you can disable location sharing to keep location private by using ghost mode, and to prevent misunderstandings about current location.
Communications. You also provide us with any other information you send through our services, such as emojis you send or sent to you from your friends.
Information we collect when you are using the app
When using our services, we collect information with regard to your activity on Spott to provide you with better services in the future. Here is an example of how we do that:
Usage information. We collect info regarding your activity on Spott. For example how you communicate with your friends. This includes names, usernames, times and dates of communications, emojis sent, how often you open the app and times of opening them, your favorite locations, favorite friends, people you pass by the most, when you open notifications, how long you stay on the app. We collect information with regard to your activity on Spott. For example, how you communicate with your friends: names, usernames, when you take a screenshot, and so on. This information helps us understand what and who you, and what we should prioritize improving on to better satisfy your wants and needs.
Device information. We collect device-specific information, such as battery level, the BSSIDs of wifi terminals, and the SSIDs for statistical purposes, phone names, phone hardware model, operating system, your phone’s advertising identifier, unique application identifiers, phone languages, unique device identifiers, wireless network names, IP addresses, phone number, and general mobile network information. Using this information helps you be more secure, fix bugs, improved location precision, and provide you with a more improved app experience.
Location Information. We collect location information based on your most frequent locations and your use of the app as well as location data. For example, we may be able to identify your home, school, or favorite campus location to hang out at. We do this to provide you with the most relevant information to you to help you share experiences with friends more conveniently, or when you want to know which locations are popping or which locations your roommates are at. We also keep track of times you have crossed paths with friends.
Third Party Information we Collect
We may collect information that other users provide about you when they use our services. For example, if a user gives us access to their contact information and you are a user on the other person’s phone then we may combine the information from the first user’s phone contacts with other information collected about you. This would be done to show that you use Spott.
We may collect information from other companies that are owned by or operated by us, or any other third-party sources--and combine that with the information we normally collect through our services. We may obtain information from third parties to help identify details of your location. This will help discern your exact location better (e.g. like when you’re at an airport or bar).
How we Use Information
The goal of Spott is to offer the best possible service so you and your friends can connect with each other so that you can connect faster and build stronger relationships through real life shared experiences. We provide the best locational benefits as possible. We use your information to:
Develop, operate, improve, deliver, maintain, and protect our services.
Send you communications, including by email. For example, we may use email to respond to support, by text, texting Athena as customer support.
Create statistical studies and monitor and analyze trends.
This could include user movement trends, as in predicting your movement patterns based on your location.
Statistical Studies. Creating studies on an anonymized formula. We do not disclose identity, not even your name.
Registration Statistics. Determines where our users are signing up from (e.g country, users of different phone types, operating systems, etc.) are statistically relevant to the different studies that Spott conducts on an aggregate basis.
Movements over time. Measuring and analyzing the movement of our users.
Communications. We study the way friends communicate and their habits.
Personalize the Spott service, as seen through friends or profiles information or giving you an overview of where been you’ve been.
Contextualize your experience by displaying your best friends and favorite locations in the app. The spott feed will move in terms of your favorite places first and favorite people first. Gives you an idea of where you are.
Enhance the safety of our products and services, for example by detecting and preventing excessive friend request.
Send you location-based advertisements about relevant things.
Send push notifications. If you don’t want to receive push notifications, get rid of them.
Verify your identity to prevent fraud or other unauthorized or illegal activity
Store some information locally on your device, so that when you open up the app you can view the content faster.
We collect your school information so that we can suggest places and people around you that you can connect with within your school or any Spott proclaimed school. To ensure safety, users must connect with those only in their school or other schools around the world. If a user is not on the campus of the school that they log on at the service will not work.
Basis for using your Information
· Contract. One of the reasons we may use your information is because it’s necessary to provide our services to you as explained in our terms of services.
· Legitimate interest. Another reason we may use your information is due to the fact that we may have some interest in doing such. For example, we need to use information to provide and improve our services, this includes protecting your account. We must protect Spott’s services, providing customer service, and helping you find friends, make new ones, and to get the population of locations. Our interest don’t outweigh your right to privacy. So we rarely rely on legitimate interest when it comes to collecting and using your data doesn’t significantly impact your privacy.
· Consent. In some cases we ask for consent to use your information for specific purposes. If we do, we’ll make sure you can revoke your consent in our services. We will give you the options you desire to revoke consent as long as you reach out to us and desires are reasonable. We may ask for consent for contacts and location.
· Legal Obligation. We may be required to user personal information to comply with the law when responding to valid legal process or when an action must be taken to protect our users.
Data Security Measures
Spott is highly committed to protecting your data from unauthorized access, use or disclosure and we use a variety of industry-standard encryption and data security technologies to do this. However, by using Spott you accept the inherent risks of providing information and will not hold us responsible for any breach of security that is due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Location of Spott Servers
We host user and location information using Google Firebase.
Product Improvement. If you choose to download Spott, we will collect the information that you disclose and analyze the data to discover new facts that could help us better understand our products and services. We may use this information for our internal business purposes, such as research to improve our products and analyses that may help us better market our products.
SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
We implement security measures we believe are reasonable to protect your information. It is important that you protect and maintain the security of your account and you need to immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account. No website, mobile application or Internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, hacking, data loss, or other breaches or other type of misuse will never occur. We may post a notice via the Services if a security breach occurs. We may also send you notice by the contact information you have provided to us in these circumstances. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to receive written notice of a data privacy or security breach. If you have reason to believe that your personal information that we have collected or our Services' security has been breached, please notify us by contacting us.
OUR POLICY TOWARD CHILDREN
Our Services are not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from such children. Children under the age of 13 should not use our Services at any time. If we learn that we have collected personally identifiable information from a child under the age of 13 we will delete such information as quickly as possible.
How we share information
We share your information in the following ways:
· First, we share it with other Spott users. Specifically, we share your name, friends, emojis, pictures, location, and past locations to knowns.
· Your location is only shared at all times with other users who you are friends with. Your location is shared only from the last public location on spott with your knowns. Your location is not shown, but lies within a radius for other users to attempt to Spott you. You can always limit your location-sharing.
· Information about how you have interacted with the service such as sending emoji’s
· Any other information that you have consented to us to share. For example, when we access your contacts from your device, we share information about you with other users who have your name and phone number in their device’s contact book.
· We share this information with entities within Live Inc.
· With third parties.
o With service providers and partners. We may share information on you with other providers of service. These service providers would perform services on our behalf and business partners that provide services and functionality.
o With third parties for legal reasons. We may share information about you if we reasonably believe that disclosing information is necessary to:
§ Comply with legal process, governmental request, or applicable law, rule, or regulation
§ Investigate, remedy, or enforce potential Terms of Service Violations
§ Protect the rights, property, and safety of our users
§ Detect and resolve fraud or security concerns
o We may also have aggregated, non personally identifiable or de-identifiable information.
· With third parties consisting of merger or acquisition. If Live Inc gets involved in a merger, asset sale, stock sale, share sale, financing, liquidation or bankruptcy, or acquisition of all or parts of the business to another company. We may share your information with that company before and after the closing of the transaction.
Your friends can take screenshots of the app and/or share some information about their interaction with you on Spott.
Third Party Content and Integrations
Our services may also contain third-party links and/or third-party integrations. Through these, you may be providing information including personal information directly to the third party, us, or both. You acknowledge and agree that we are not responsible for how such third parties collect or use your information. As always, we encourage you to review the privacy policies of our third-party services that you visit or use, includes third-parties you interact with within the app.
How long we store information
The following data is stored as long as you are actively using the Spott app:
- Your name and phone number
- Age and profile picture
- Emoji Spott requests
- Current location data
- Your device and usage information
Contact us if you have any questions for deletions of your information. We respect your requests for account deletion. We will explain more information on how to delete your app below.
Control over your information
· Location. You can change your location visibility by going to your profile and clicking ghost mode. This hides your location and removes location-tracking services. You can click unghost to reset your location settings. We will always be improving. If you have ideas please reach out! Spott is built on our users and for our users.
· Access. We strive to let you access and update most of the personal information that we have about you. This is done mostly in the profile section of the app. If you need access, update, or delete any other personal information that we may possess, contact us. We may force that you provide us with your information and identity.
· Account deletion. We don’t want you to leave us, but if for some reason you want to delete your account you can contact us and we will delete you account if you request account deletion.
· Account Undeletion. If you’ve asked us to delete your account and then change your mind and totally want it back. You have 30 days to restore your account before we delete all of your information from our servers. During this period, your account will not be visible to other users.
· Right to object. You have rights to object our use of your information. You can simply delete if you do not want us to have the data we spoke about and provided you with. If there is certain information you do not want us to have contact us.
